Laundry Suds

Around here, we make our own laundry detergent. It is super easy. You need a 4 oz bar of soap, 1 cup of borax, and 1 cup of washing soda (and if you’re fancy, which we’re not, a few drops of yummy smelling essential oils).

I just buy regular old bar soap, but one of these days I’ll get around to getting the good stuff. I make several batches at a time. First I run the soap through the food processor using the grater blade. Then I add the grated soap back in along with the other ingredients and mix it all with the regular mixing blade. Put it in a container, and just add 2 tbsp per large load of clothes. It’s so simple!

    • The dishwasher detergent recipe is 1/2 cup borax, 1/2 cup washing soda, 2 tbsp citric acid, and a pinch of salt. You just put it in the detergent dispenser like usual. I don’t make this one, because there’s a cheap Kroger dishwasher detergent that works really well, so I’ve never had the motivation.
